March 3

Hotel.

The link for reserving hotel rooms is available. Click here. Please note that the discounted rate is good only until March 17. If more teams are interested in rooms than the size of the current block, we might be able to ask the hotel to increase the number. However, the sooner we can do this, the better.

Topics.

Teams are requested to submit topics as soon as you have decided on them to  topic@ibecc.net. We want to set the schedule of presentations in a couple of weeks, and the more information we have, the easier it will be to recruit good judging panels. As we get closer to the competition, we’ll also be asking for a one-page executive summary. At this point, the topic will suffice.

Prizes. AI division.

Here’s how we’re going to handle the prizes and the AI competition. All teams will be assigned to a regular division in each of the three competitions: full presentation, 10-minute, 90-second. (If we can, we change the membership of the divisions so you aren’t always competing against the same team.) There will be a winner ($250) and runner up ($125) in each of the divisions in each of the three competitions. In addition to that, if your team has an AI topic, a separate winner ($500) and runner up ($250) prize will be awarded based on the full presentation. (For this, the AI presentations will be compared against each other.) The benefit of choosing an AI topic is that a team could win both regular divisional prizes and an AI prize based on the same presentation.

Biathlon (optional).

We have decided to include our unique academic/athletic competition: “The World’s Most Intellectual Daunting Biathlon.” This is an academic/athletic competition based on a team’s performance in the 25-minute presentation and the number of steps a team can log in 30 minutes either running, jogging or walking. Note that we use a complicated formula that gives teams of walkers as much a chance to win as team of runners, especially if they turn in a strong performance in the presentation and if everyone on the team participates. Team information.

In some cases, schools registered before they had the names of the students who would be involved. Please be sure that we have the appropriate names and addresses. If you asked to receive a copy of your registration when you first filled out the form, you’ll be able to edit it. If you didn’t, please fill out a new form and we’ll delete the earlier one. Click here for the registration page.

Registration fee.

If you haven’t paid the registration fee through PayPal yet and haven’t been in touch with us, we’d appreciate it if you’d attend to this. Click here. If PayPal is problematic for you for some reason, please contact us.
