On Wednesday evening, we will have a “general information” session so that everyone’s reminded about how things will proceed. The presentations are on Thursday and Friday.
As we get closer to the competition, we’ll be in touch with teams regarding what are workable times on Thursday and Friday for the full presentation (Thursday) and the 10-minute (Friday) and 90-second presentations (Friday). To make it easier to schedule, it may be the case that teams will do both their 10-minute and the 90-second presentations in the same session on Friday. This will depend on the number of teams in the competition and the number of judges we’re able to recruit. We usually use 90-minute slots. On Friday, multiple teams will present in the same time slot.
Teams pick a topic ahead of time and prepare their presentations. An executive summary should be submitted by April 17th. Sample executive summaries from the 2022 competition can be found here.
There are not “rounds” in IBECC. Each team will compete in a “division” in each of the three competitions (full, 10, 90). The size depends on how many teams we have, but perhaps five teams per division. Ideally, the composition of the divisions is different in the three competitions. The winner and runner up team of each division receive awards.
Results in each division are determined by the uberjudge overseeing that division. Uberjudges base their decision on a combination of the judging form filled out by the judges and their own judgment. Click here for an example of the 2022 judging form. (There might be a few changes on the form for 2023. We’ll alert teams if it happens.)
